1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else’s work, ideas, or intellectual property as one’s own without proper acknowledgment or attribution. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Copying text, data, images, or any other content from another source without proper citation.
- Paraphrasing or rephrasing someone else’s work without giving appropriate credit.
- Submitting an article that has been previously published, in part or in full, without clear disclosure and proper citation.
- Self-plagiarism, which occurs when an author republishes their own work without proper citation or permission.
2. Commitment to Avoiding Plagiarism
The “Nigerian Journal of Computing Engineering and Technology” (NIJOCET) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic and research integrity. We take a firm stance against all forms of plagiarism and are dedicated to upholding the ethical principles of scholarly publishing.
3. Submission Guidelines
Authors submitting articles to NIJCET are required to adhere to the following guidelines to prevent plagiarism:
- All submitted work must be original and should not have been published elsewhere.
- Properly cite and reference all sources used in the article, including text, data, images, and any other content.
- When referring to your own previous work, clearly disclose this and provide proper citation.
4. Plagiarism Detection
To ensure the originality of submitted manuscripts, NIJOCET uses plagiarism detection tools. These tools compare the submitted work with existing published content and other online sources.
5. Consequences of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is detected in a submitted manuscript, the following actions will be taken:
- The manuscript will be immediately rejected.
- The author(s) will be notified of the plagiarism violation.
- The details of the incident may be shared with the author’s institution or other relevant authorities.
- The author(s) may be banned from submitting future articles to NIJCET.
6. Editorial Responsibilities
The editorial team at NIJCET is committed to maintaining a rigorous and fair review process that includes plagiarism checks. Reviewers are also instructed to report any suspected cases of plagiarism.
7. Ethical Reporting
NIJCET is committed to addressing plagiarism and other ethical violations swiftly and fairly. Authors, reviewers, and readers are encouraged to report any suspected instances of plagiarism to the journal’s editorial team.
